Raised in a community steeped in Celtic tradition, MacIsaac began playing the fiddle as a child and quickly emerged as a prodigy, mastering the traditional Cape Breton sound while pushing it into new, uncharted territory. He broke into the national spotlight in the mid-1990s with his breakthrough album Hi How Are You Today? (1995), which went 3x platinum in Canada and earned him a Juno Award.
